Teen Drug AbuseTeen drug addiction is an ever-growing issue in the United States and has become a problem in San Jose. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, 32 percent of 12th graders have tried marijuana, and the abuse starts much younger since 11.8 percent of 8th graders reported that they’ve tried it. Marijuana is not the only drug that teens use; four percent of 12th graders admit to using amphetamines or cocaine,¬†while one in 10 has tried Vicodin.

Teenage drug use is extremely detrimental for San Jose adolescents. A drug or alcohol addiction can have serious effects on the body, including:

  • Permanent damage to the brain
  • Damage to internal organs
  • Increased heart rates
  • Respiratory distress
  • Seizures
  • Coma
  • Death
